Barrow Water Supply Scheme Area Extension Project

Project Objective:

The objective of the Barrow Water Supply Area Extension Project is to maximise the treated water output from Srowland Water Treatment Plant by extending supply via the existing Old Kilcullen Reservoir to Naas and environs. The existing supply area includes the Central Kildare Area including the towns of Newbridge, Kildare, and Kilcullen as well as Athy and environs in south Kildare. The Project also provides the necessary infrastructure to allow transfer of water from Srowland Water Treatment Plant via Old Kilcullen Reservoir to the Ballymore Eustace WTP supply area to provide further resilience and security of supply to the Greater Dublin Region.

Works Scope

Cantwell Electrical Engineering Ltd. were appointed Specialist contractor for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control equipment (MEICA) and associated ancillary works. The scope included for the provision of a duty/assist/standby booster pumping stations, secondary dosing chlorination, water quality measurement instruments, process instrumentation (pressure, flow, etc.) and the provision of Remote Telemetry Units (RTU’s) to provide live / logged data to the Local Authority SCADA and Irish Water Interim National Telemetry System (iNTS).
