Agricultural – Water Treatment

Water Softeners

Much of our water supply is rich in several natural mineral salts such as Calcium & Magnesium. Some of these salts result in ‘water hardness’ and if left untreated, can cause damage to water systems, boilers, electric appliances and taps.

If this is the case with your water supply, you will notice a white chalky residue in the bottom of your kettle or on your shower head. We highly recommend installing a Water Softener. Through special synthetic resins, the Softener retains these dissolved salts, which causes water hardness and subsequent limescale build-up. A Softener is the absolute solution to limescale problems and prevents damage to expensive appliances such as your Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Shower, Kettle, Coffee Machine, Steam Iron & your Central Heating System.

Some water supplies may contain a certain amount of suspended solid particles such as sand and sediment. These particles can be unsightly and cause discolouration and/or odour problems with the water supply. In addition, they may cause damage and corrosion to water systems, taps, appliances, etc.

A filtration system is required to gather and remove these particles before the water supply reaches your property. Our filter systems differ in material and performances, depending on the severity of the issue and the volume of water to be treated. When a filter is installed, a recurrent cleaning operation is necessary. To avoid this issue, we at Cantwell’s have introduced a range of self-cleaning filter systems. Our automatic model ensures a periodic self-cleaning of the filter cartridge thus maintaining the optimum filtering capacity at all times.

Our filter cartridges include;

  • Washable net and washable stainless steel – to capture & remove all suspended solid particles. As the name suggests, these cartridges are washable and reusable.
  • Wound cotton of varying densities – also to capture and remove solid particles. However, these are a disposable cartridge and in turn are only used for a certain period of time, before having to be replaced.
  • Activated carbon – which removes taste, smells, colour & chlorine from the water supply.

RO Treatment

Reverse Osmosis is the ultimate in water filtration & purification. Our RO systems are advanced compact purification units. Installation is very easy and in a domestic property, it is generally carried out in the space under the kitchen/utility sink. Using Osmotic Membranes, combined with some or all of the following; Filtration/Chlorine Removal/UV Sterilisation, our systems guarantee a supply of pure water, free from odour, chemicals and bacteriological pollutants. Water is forced at high pressure through these micro-fibre membranes and filters and all possible impurities are removed and the purified water is discharged via the RO tap at the sink.

The water produced is optimal for drinking, preparation of infant formula & foods, cooking, ice, coffee machines, washing of fruit & vegetables and so on.

Ultra Violet Treatment

Water, in its natural cycle, flows through areas and grounds of different nature before flowing into rivers and lakes, which unfortunately are sometimes polluted by industrial, agricultural or domestic waste. The quality of our drinking water is generally kept under control by the Local Authorities in charge of each area, but this does not prevent the risk of leakages and pollutants along the supply pipelines, which are often old & in need of upgrading.

If such pollution occurs, bacteria can enter our water supply and it becomes unsafe for consumption, food preparation, brushing teeth, etc. In this case, UV (Ultra Violet) Water Treatment is one of the most effective treatments available. The working principle of this comprehensive treatment is very simple and involves no chemicals.

How UV Treatment Works – The water supply to your property is passed through an initial filter system to remove any particles, before entering the UV Sterilising Filter. The Ultraviolet light is lethal to all bacteria and micro-organisms and once the water is passed through this UV chamber, the UV light destroys all impurities present. Installation of this water treatment system is simple and is generally carried out in the space under the Kitchen/Utility sink.

Rain Water Harvesting Treatment

Rainwater Harvesting is a rainwater catchment process that makes our abundant supply of rainwater available for reuse. It is a sustainable water recycling solution involving the collection, filtration and storage of rainwater to supplement the mains water supply.

Treated rainwater conserves your existing water supply by providing an alternative water source suitable for most non-consumable water requirements such as irrigation, toilet flushing and power washing.

Chemical Dosing

Cantwell Electrical Engineering offers Chemical Dosing solutions as part of our comprehensive water treatment products and services.

UV (Ultra Violet) Treatment destroys all impurities found in your water supply; however the effectiveness of this treatment is reduced after prolonged storage of the water. Chemical Dosing is highly efficient in killing the bacteria that may be introduced into water after it has been stored in a water tank. Sodium Hypochlorite is typically added to the water to assist with chemical dosing, while pH Correction and the addition of Hydrofluosilicic acid, are other common chemical dosing practices.

Cantwell Electrical Engineering offers an array of Water Treatment accessories and parts, most of which can be purchased direct from our store.

Water Softening Accessories – salt and pellets

Water Filtration Accessories – filter replacement cartridges

Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers – replacement filters

UV Treatment Units – replacement tubes and ballasts

Chemical Dosing – pumps need to be serviced once a year
